Top 5 Rules of Web Design
Rule #1 Content is King
We have a saying: “The Internet is a utility for information, not a place of entertainment.” Chances are, if you’re trying to entertain people on-line, you are in an industry that we don’t support at Dazzle Multimedia (e.g. porn or gambling). Trying to entertain customers with flash intros that people just want to skip, or flash-driven sites that get under your nerves is usually a waste of money. By no means does this mean your site needs to be boring. It just needs to be content driven (e.g. a utility, for information) and not graphic/animation driven. We help customers avoid this common trap by building sites that display relevant content and material about products and services.
Rule # 2 Be Easy to Navigate
If rule #1 is true, then you want to make sure people can find what they are looking for. Your entire site needs to be clearly labeled and easy to read. Your visitors should be able to find what they are looking for in your site within three clicks. If not, they are very likely to click off your site as quickly as they clicked on. Text links should be unique (e.g. not look the same as any other text in your web pages) and constant throughout the site. Dazzle Multimedia uses Cascade Style Sheets to ensure rapid deployment of easy-to-navigate websites.
Rule #3 Be Easy to Find
What good is a website if nobody knows it’s there but you? Dazzle Multimedia uses the latest SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategies for our customers. This includes, but is not limited to: Keyword Optimization, properly labeled Titles and Meta Tags, Image Optimization and ALT TAGS, GoogleBot Friendly HTML Tagging., Google SiteMap (beta) Creation and Pay-per-Click analysis. Check out our SEO section for more information.
Rule #4 Call to Action
OK, so your content is correct and up-to-date (rule 1), your visitor can find what they are looking for (rule 2) and they got to your site, somehow (rule 3). Well, THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW! Your site needs to go beyond telling people about your product and services. It needs to also tell visitors what you want them to do. “Contact us today for a FREE CONSULTATION…” is just an example of a call to action that we use on our own site. Our job at Dazzle Multimedia is to build a site that that makes people want to contact you… after that, it’s up to you to do the rest.
Rule #5 Outsource to a Professional
We hear the cliché all the time, “Anyone can build a website.” And, to a degree, that’s true. Today’s advanced hardware and software makes it possible for just about anyone to do a basic web design, post it to the Internet and, technically, build a website. The trick, however, is to do it right.
Call us and put us to work. See the difference.
